Summary
Gine R. Bolling is a junior research fellow in the Research group on security and defence.
She graduated with an MSc in Politics of Conflict, Rights and Justice from SOAS, University of London, in 2019. She wrote her master’s thesis om the ethical and legal implications of the development of Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems (LAWS). Furthermore, Bolling investigated what is meant by ‘human control’ in the international discussion on the use of artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision making in warfare. In 2020 she proceeded to do a traineeship at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where she worked for The Directorate of Political Affairs.
Before joining NUPI, she worked as a researcher at the Norwegian Defence University College / The Royal Norwegian Naval Academy. During this period she conducted research on autonomy in military systems, French Foreign and Defence policy in the maritime domain as well as in relation to European defence cooperation.
