This year's conference, Lifting the Veil of Secrecy: Tax Havens, Capital Flows and Developing Countries, will take place in Bergen 21-22 November 2016. Leading academics, practitioners and investigative journalists from all over the world, will meet to present state of the art research on tax havens, elite behavior and international taxation, and discuss how tax havens affect developing countries. 

The annual illicit financial flows from developing countries amount to a sum greater than the combined development aid. Increased tax revenue could have financed infrastructure, health care, and better and more education to the residents in these countries. At the same time the elites exploitation of tax havens constitutes a democratic problem; What happens to the willingness to pay tax when the rich dodge their responsibility? And what could be done on a local level to prevent illicit financial flows? What is being done on the international arena and will OECDs BEPS project lead to results for developing countries?

These issues and more will be discussed at the conference. The conference is organized by Cr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) and the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH), in collaboration with Tax Justice Network - Norway. With support from the TaxCapDev-Network and the Research Council of Norway.
