Critical minerals play an important role in the low carbon energy transition. Ensuring sufficient access to such raw materials in a fair and sustainable way can become a complex balancing act requiring particular governance approaches.

To help public and private decision-makers in Sweden and in the EU navigate this landscape, Mistra Mineral Governance research project will:

(1) analyze what current and future supply chains might look like;

(2) consider the geopolitical and market context in which energy transitions take place;

(3) identify potential goal conflicts and their solutions;

(4) co-create new ways to govern the transition while protecting human rights, promoting social justice and enhancing competitiveness.
