The ‘Developments in the Russian Far East project’ builds cooperation between NUPI and Russian and East Asian research institutions, with an emphasis on analyzing Russian decision-making and international engagement around development of Russia’s Pacific coast.

The project aims to produce nine, empirically fresh policy notes covering the role of the Far East in Russia’s petroleum outlook, the region’s position in public spending and state policymaking and Russia’s broader geopolitical leanings between ‘East’ and ‘West’.

The project also supports NUPI researchers’ participation in a high-level research and policy network organized by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.
