Globalization has led to more trade between countries. What are the effects of increased trade, and how should Norway adapt to this?
As a small nation, Norway has always relied on international trade in goods and services. Greater European cooperation through the EU, EFTA and the EEA has led to a surge in intra-European trade. In recent decades, globalization and international trade agreements have promoted an expansion of trade with Asia and other countries far from Norway. While trade liberalization started with tariff cuts, trade policy has become increasingly complex. Therefore, topics like investments, trade in services and food safety also feature on NUPI’s research agenda.
Examples of questions we study:
- What are the impacts of trade and trade agreements with various countries?
- How should Norway adapt to the global race for new trade agreements?
- Does increased trade between rich and poor countries have an impact on development?
