Taking stock of Norway's work on climate, peace and security in the UNSC (2021-2022)
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) are collaborating on a Climate-related Peace and Security Risks project that has supported the work of Norway during their period as an elected member of the Security Council. The project is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs until the end of 2023.
The primary objective is to generate reliable, relevant, timely and actionable information and analysis on climate-related peace, security and development risks relating to specific countries and regions on the UN Security Council agenda. The project has also stimulated global networking among researchers and policymakers through a series of dialogues, and it established a Nordic and Baltic Climate, Peace and Security Network. NUPI and SIPRI are continuing to support Norway’s work on this topic, and they are now also supporting the work of Switzerland on this topic during their period as an elected member of the UN Security Council (2023-2024).
The seminar will take place at the NUPI office. It will also be livestreamed through NUPI’s YouTube channel. Digital participation does not require registration.
