Lunch seminar: Peace, war and alliances in cyberspace
What are cyberspace operations? In what ways is conflict in this “domain” different from conflict in physical domain? And how do cyberspace operations relate to information warfare, what are the similarities and differences?

We will be serving a light lunch from 11.30!
With these questions, Martin Libicki’s talk will give us a broad introduction to cyberspace operations in a conflict environment. He will explore three topics: the possible “normalization” of tactical cyberwar or network intrusions in peacetime, the generalization of cyberspace operations against artificial intelligent systems as these become more and more ubiquitous, and the benefits and risks of a cyberspace alliance in northeast Europe.
Martin Libicki holds the Keyser Chair of cybersecurity studies at the U.S. Naval Academy. In addition to teaching, he carries out research in cyberwar and the general impact of information technology on domestic and national security. He is the author of a 2016 textbook on cyberwar, Cyberspace in Peace and War, as well as two others commercially published books, Conquest in Cyberspace: National Security and Information Warfare, and Information Technology Standards: Quest for the Common Byte.
Senior advisor and Head of the Research Group on Security and Defense at NUPI, Karsten Friis, will moderate the seminar.
