Lunch Seminar: The Islamic State - Terrorism and Influence
Charlie Winter visits NUPI for a seminar organized by the Consortium for Research on Terrorism and International Crime.
His presentation, which is based on a longitude archive of primary source materials collected by Winter since early 2014, will evaluate the current state of play regarding Islamic State strategic communication operations. It will identify the organisation's messaging priorities at present and explain the notion of "pre-emptive nostalgia," a motif that has been present in its propaganda since mid-2016.
Based on this, Winter will conclude by putting forward a likely operational trajectory for the group in the coming months and years.
Lunch will be served from 11.30, and the seminar will start at 12.00.
