Event
Expert meeting: Europe, the EU and security
The topic for the second roundtable will be "The EU as a security provider – expectations, strategy, delivery". The EU is currently working on a EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy, to be completed by June 2016. The EU is facing a very different strategic environment since its last Security Strategy was published in 2003, and is using this opportunity to take stock on the broader security issues facing the Union: migration, fragile states in MENA, vulnerable neighbors in the East, terrorism, climate change, economic and financial crisis, authoritarian norm diffusion, amongst others. Nathalie Tocci, Special Adviser to EU HRVP Federica Mogherini, is responsible for coordination of work on the Global Strategy and is in Oslo to meet with high-ranking Norwegian officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
We will use this opportunity to discuss questions related to two overarching topics: the EU as a security provider, and how Norway as a tightly integrated third-party should align its own foreign and security politics to the EU.
The main speaker at this event will be Nathalie Tocci who is Deputy Director of Istituto Affari Internazionali, Editor of The International Spectator and Special Adviser to EU HRVP Federica Mogherini, in charge of outreaching to think tanks and coordination of work on a new European Security Strategy.
